Complexe No. 1. Hommage a Mendoza

Anvers: Complexe, c. 1968. Oblong 8vo, 70 pp, side-stapled and backed with black cloth tape. Illustrated in black and white. Text in French.

Debut issue of this student little magazine of art and literature edited by a young André Versaille, who would later take the name - based upon the theories of Morin - for his influential publishing house Editions Complexe. This periodical was immediately inspired by the events of 1968. This number was in part an hommage to the artist and Machine gun innovator Manuel de Mendoza, and included an Hommage to him written by Versaille, as well as reproductions of several of his works. Also, Claude Volter on Sacha Guitry, Michel Gross on Francis Ponge, Versaille on Tristan Bernard, an interview with Gilles Perrault and l'orchestra rouge, Guy Detré on Sartre, and more.
