Cleveland: Going Home (HOT FUCK)

Cleveland: Mostly Broken Scabs, 1977. First edition. 4to, unpaginated, mimeographed from typescript. With a manila bag tipped in entitled HOT FUCK, containing printed and found broadsides and materials. The title page is printed by mimeograph over a photo-mechanically reproduced photograph.

A one shot zine documenting poems read at two reading series in Cleveland, Bobby McGee's and the Rap Cellar, and dedicated to Jim Lowell of the Asphodel Bookshop. The middle contains a tipped in envelope entitled HOT FUCK, collection a variety of printed and found materials, including broadsides, seeds, a condom, string, etc, which the title page suggests "chronicles the Cleveland blizzards of 1977 in no particular order." The title page also lists music listened to during the creation of the zine, including Patti Smith, David Bowie's Low, and Pere Ubu's 30 Seconds Over Tokyo.

The zine includes not only work by some of the usual suspects in the Cleveland poetry scene, but also some crossover with the Cleveland punk scene, including what must be one of the last, if not the last poem published by Peter Laugher in his lifetime, ".38 Special (for Billy Haims / a friend, murdered St. Patrick's Night, 1976."

There are also contributions by Charlotte Pressler, Bernie Joelson, d.a. levy, Geoff Singer, Dave Pishnery, James C. Stuehr, Carol Furpahs, Tom Fisher, Meg Buynak, Daniel Thompson, Réal Faucher, James Taranto, Barry Greenberg, Tim Joyce, Norman Pickel, and Kristen Ban et al, and silkscreens and other artwork by Jim Coe, Craig Strasshofer, Mark Solars, and Michael Schaefer.

Covers a little inevitable wavy due to the bulk of the tipped in envelope, else fine, with the envelope in this copy still sealed. In our own copy of this, the packet contained a broadside poem of concrete poetry, a condom, seeds, a bank deposit envelope, etc. Item #31551
