The Book-Hunter Vol. I. A Little Periodical of Good Taste in Books and in Other Things

Brooklyn: The Book-Hunter, 1914. First edition. 8vo, 34 pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Illustrated.

Debut issue of this little magazine of bibliomania, edited by the 'Barnum of Bohemia,' Guido Bruno, and Cora Bennett. The magazine was published from Brooklyn and predates Bruno's other wonderful little magazines, such as Greenwich Village and Bruno's Weekly. According to Kisch, It was probably the precursor to the former. See Kisch, pp. 29-30.

This issue includes an article on Calvin F. S. Thomas and the printing of Edgar Allan Poe's Tamerlane and Other Poems, as well as texts by Elbert Hubbard, Oscar Wilde, Sadakichi Hartmann, and Winward Prescott, and a poemby W. H. Davis. Of special interest to the trade is the inclusion of a catalog of Lincolniana by Schulte's Book Store. On the back are ads for The Old Bookstall, Walter R. Benjamin, and P. F. Madigan.

A superb example of the influence of the rare book trade on Bohemia and the little mags.

Wraps toned, with some faint tidemarking along spine of front and back covers, not affecting the interior. Very good. Item #31273
