Item #30990 Acéphale No. 1. Georges Bataille, eds.
Acéphale No. 1

Acéphale No. 1

Paris: Acéphale, 1936. 8vo, [8] pp. including covers, saddle-stapled in wraps.

The first issue of the periodical, which ran to 5 numbers. Acéphale was the public review of the secret society of the same name, Each issue of Acéphale was illustrated on the cover with André Masson's drawing of a headless figure, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's drawing Vitruvian Man. The removal of the head was in part a reference to the decapitation of Louis XVI, an event which the Acéphale group celebrated in a ritual manner.

A slender issue, but after this nothign would be the same. It includes the Bataille text La Conjuration Sacree, and the Pierre Klossowski text Le Monstre.

The wraps are mostly split along the spine, though still holding at the upper staple, with the usual toning, but complete and clean throughout. Item #30990

Price: $750.00
