Brooklyn: Zonepress, 1977. First edition. 8vo, 64 pp, perfect bound in illustrated wraps.
First and only edition of this little known anthology of art and poetry related to the NYC subway system, notable for including a little known appearance by a younfg David Wojnarowicz, then 23, who contributes an unusual portrait of a man with subway tokens for eyes and railroad tracks on his bow tie, within his open mouth a subway train following the beam of its light through the dark.
Zonepress also published the periodical Zone, which lasted through 1981 and documented the lower east side arts scene. The imprint published a book by Janine Pommy Vega, an early influence on Wojnarowicz in his early days.
Other contributors include Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Stephen Lackow, Dan Georgakas, Joe Scherzer, Mimi Albert, Lewis Gardner, Merle Molofsky, Phillis Gershator, Duane Locke, Jay McDonnell, Sharyn Jeanne Skeeter, William F. Van Wert, Ron Kolm, Les Van Losberg, Joseph Bruchac, Bonnie Gordon, Michael Morais, and the editors.
Very good in wrappers with some faint trace soiling, some minor creasing to wraps and a faint, almost imperceptible stain at the head of crown. Item #30969
