np: c. 1971. Lab testing kit, consisting of a thermostate, glass tubes holding seeds, batteries, and labelled leaf, all held inside a handmade glass fronted mobile case. Provenance: from the collection of Tjeerd Deelstra.
A sculpture used during a 1971 performance by the Insektensekte at the opening of the 1971 Daniel Spoerri exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum, which was purchased after the performance by the collector and artist Tjeerd Deelstra. The Insektensekte was formed after the 1969 Waddenzee fuel spill, and included Theo Kley, Hub Mathijsen, Cor Jaring, and the dentist and activist Max Reneman. Yoko Ono and John Lennon were also members. The group was one of the first artists' groups to address ecological concerns. A remarkable and beautiful artifact from the early days of ecological art action. Item #30962
