Declaration for our Italian Artists and Comerades: Follow Courbet

Venice: Second Situationist International, 1968. 8 5/8 x 12" leaflet, printed in black on orange paper stock. Illustrated with a photograph.

Leaflet issued by the Second Situationist International on the occasion of the 1968 Venice Biennale, proposing, in conjunction with the World Anarchist Council, the occupation of the Swedish pavilion in order to turn it into a Trojan Horse, a "pavillon of revolt," and soliciting the collaboration of the Italian pavilion. The leaflet outlines further steps to be taken against the art world, including abandoning the art academies and the erection of art barricades. This last step was in homage to Gustave Courbet and his two most radical actions; the erection of a separate pavilion outside of the Paris world exhibition, and, infamously, his detonation of the Vendome Pillar in 1871.

Folded three times, with some additional faint creasing, but bright and very good. Item #30674
