My Computer Likes Me When I Speak in BASIC

Menlo Park, CA: Dymax, 1972. 4to, 63 [1] pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Printed on newsprint. Profusely illustrated with line drawings, cartoons, and diagrams.

A copy of what we believe to be the true first edition of one of the most influential computer books ever published. Albrecht published this handbook under his own Dymax imprint for the first time in 1972, the same year that he became associated with the Portola Institute and started the People's Computer Company (the name an homage to Big Brother & The Holding Company). The book went on to sell more than 250,000 copies under various formats. This edition is notable for lacking Albrecht's name, and also has no price on the cover, as the more commonly seen green Dymax edition has.

This copy has been annotated in blue ink across ten or so pages by a former reader, reacting to the prompts and recording results - a valuable window into contemporary use of the manual. Aside from the noted annotations, there are a couple dogeared pages within, as well as a couple of short closed tears to page margins of the fragile newsprint - otherwise a bright, very good example.
