My First Nursery Book
London: George Harrap, 1947. First edition. Small 4to, unpaginated, bound in illustrated boards backed in green cloth. Lacking the rare dust jacket. Profusely illustrated throughout, in color, by Franciszka Themerson.
First edition of one of Themerson's best known works, illustrating 'Who Killed Cock Robin?,' 'The Gingerbread Man,' 'Three Little Pigs' and 'The Three Bears.] The work was not reprinted until a very successful edition was produced by the Tate in 2009. Themerson was of course the co-founder of the legendary Gaberbocchus Press.
Boards toned, rubbed, and lightly foxed, with some internal foxing and light discoloration and scattered staining, and dogearing to one page. Despite stated faults, a sturdy good example of a book that is scarce in the first edition. Item #30323
