Le Mythe Tragique de l'Angélus de Millet. Interprétation Paranoïaque-Critique

Paris: Jean-Jacques Pauvert, 1963. First edition. 4to, 105 pp, bound in full linen with pastdowns to the front panel and an enclosure ribbon and buckle. Profusely illustrated, including numerous tipped in plates, some in color.

First edition of this unusual bookwork documenting the influence of Jesan-Francois Millet's Angelus on the artist, and his insistence - supported by x-ray evidence of the painting - that it depicted a funeral scene, and not a devotional scene. The illustrations are gathered from a wide variety of sources.

Binding overopened at the final page of the foreword, though the sewn binding remains quite sturdy - els very good, with previous owner's illustrated bookplate (John Hunov). Item #30103

Price: $125.00
