London: Editions Poetry London Limited, 1950. First edition. 12mo, 12 pp, bound in illustrated boards.
A remarkable children's story about Peddy Bottom, who "knew that he was Peddy Bottom, but men all thought that there was something doggy about him, while dogs all thought that there was something human about him." - p. 5. The story is accompanied by superb line drawings by Franciszka Themerson. One of the great children's books from the avant-garde. The book was later reissued in a substantially different design from the Themerson's own Gaberbocchus Press four years later. This first edition is now rare.
Boards a touch darkened, more pronounced at the spine, which shows a little rubbing. Very good. Item #30088
