L'Homme et sa liberté. Jeu dramatique pour la veilliée

Paris: Editions du Seuil, 1949. First edition. 12mo, 94 pp, printed wraps. Illustrated with four black and white plates.

One of Marker's first two books, along with his novel Le Coeur Net, both published in 1949. A mysterious book, which Sarah Cooper describes as "a montage of different texts on theatre," in her introduction to her study of Marker. In his preface to these texts, Marker writes that the book comes about from two absolute convictions of the author, the first being that "que l'on s'exprime beaucoup mieux par les textes des autres." The book is illustrated with four found images by Marker.

Rare. OCLC locates only 8 holdings, only 3 are which in North America.

Paper toned, with some rubbing at spine, which also has some darkening, creasing, and a 1/5" split in the paper covering the spine, and some tenderness to the binding, though it still holds. Very faint ink notation to cover. A very good example of a fragile book. Item #30008
