Poster for the World Imitation Zine

Northridge, CA: World Imitation, 1979. First edition. 8 1/2 x 11" sheet, photomechanically reproduced with some hand-coloring in marker, and a brief note in ink.

Rare poster advertising the artists' book / zine by the World Imitation Productions collective, active in the neo-dada and mail art scenes in the 1970's, and better known in their musical incarnation, the avant punk band Monitor. The group was the subject of a 2017 exhibition at the LA Gallery These Days.

The World Imitation zines were produced in very small quantities. According to Jon Savage in England's Dreaming, Computer Buddy and the other zines produced around this time were made in runs of 50 copies. This is the first example of the poster we've seen.

Very good ith some minor creasing and a couple of old staple holes. Item #29727
