"Every month I get stacks of music papers and magazines....At the moment you and Zigzag are the only ones I read twice. Happily you seem to be written by loonies for loonies and as a loony of some years standing that's just fine for me....." - John Peel, in Let It Rock September 1973.
All issues published of one of the most influential magazines devoted to rock and pop criticism in the 1970's, which managed a herculean run of 35 issues despite consistently low sales and numerous changes in publisher and editorship. Let It Rock had a more academic and critical approach, including long form articles, but also had a broader focus than other rock music mags of the time, inc;uding criticism of soul music, reggae, blues, glam and pop in addition to rock music.
The magazine included Barney Bubbles, George Snow, Kevin Sparrow ,Peter Till et al. as designers, with writing from Lester Bangs, Greil Marcus, Charlie Gillett, Simon Frith, John Tobler, Karl Dallas, Phil Hardy, Gary Herman, Richard Williams, Tony Scaduto, Jonh Ingham, Mike Leadbitter, Ian Whitcomb, Chris Salewicz, Michael Gray, Mick Gold, Gene Sculatti, Ed Ward, Bill Millar, Rob Finnis, Pete Wingfield, Peter Guralnick et al.
