London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co, 1891. First edition. 8vo, viii, 296 pp, bound in the publisher's brown waxed cloth titled in gilt at the spine, and ruled and decorated in red at the front panel.

The rare first edition of this landmark work, published shortly after Waite became a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

This is unfortunately a battered, fair only example, the front hinge completely cracked and the spine coming away from the binding, with rubbing and splitting to the cloth, the binding broken in a couple places, but still hanging on by the threads. Collated and complete.

With the ownershiop ticket of Anna Ley to fep, crossed out ownership signature of Robert W. Butler to the half-title, with his Hollywood address, and signature of the third owner also to half-title page - the NASA scientist Ralph Donaldson. Item #29433
