New York: Boke Press, 1964. First edition. Foolscap, mechanically duplicated on rectos only; stab-stapled.
The second and last issue of Brainard's artist periodical devoted to storyless or abstract comics. Illustrated throughout by Brainard with texts by many important poets of the New York School, including Bill Berkson, Ted Berrigan, Edwin Denby, Barbara Guest, Kenneth Koch, Frank O'Hara, James Schuyler, Tom Veitch, Kenward Elmslie, Gerard Malanga, Ron Padgett, Johnny Stanton, and Tony Towle.
In a more just world, C Comics would be remembered as in important innovation in the form, but Brainard is largely absent from scholarship about comics, though this could be partially a result of the scarceness of both issues - hopefully they will one day be reprinted.
Faint tidemark to fore edge of rear wrapper, giving a very faint small ripple to back cover but not affecting interior, else a very good and tight copy with only light toning. Item #29358
