Towards the Abolition of Teachers / Beyond Panic. A Small Provocation for Discussion.

np: The Artist, 1980. 8 1/4 x 11 1/2" flyer, photo-mechanically reproduced on both recto and verso, the recto featuring a collage and the verso the text.

A leaflet produced for Genesis P-Orridge's work "Beyond Panic," instigated in Hull by the curator Andrew Barrack. There was apparently some sort of advance protest against the work, and the text at verso is a remarkable work of institutional critique against Art School; "Thee attempt to prevent me speakig reveals a crucial dilemma of Art Colleges. Individualism is given only lip service, peer-group acceptance is vital to tutors and unthinking careerist students...... "When people are redundant they attempt to invent uses for themselves, these people are redundant as artists so they invent a myth of art education to give themselves a job and social status. No wonder they are scared of us. No wonder they are even more scared of you waking up!"

Rare. The only example we've handled, and given the means of distribution, it seems unlikely that many would survive.

Xerox somewhat sticky from ink raise - and consistent with the process in 1980. Otherwise fine. Item #29349
