Cleveland: c. 1972-73. One pair of Nunn Bush Italian high stack heel leather platform shoes, size 11. One men’s ruffled shirt, blue, with golden thread pattern. One pair of Sutters Mill white cotton flared pants. With an original Cinderella Backstreet promotional poster featuring a drawing of the platform shoes.
Provenance: from the archive of Jim Clinefelter.
An ensemble worn by Peter Laughner and other members of the Cleveland proto-punk band Cinderella Backstreet, including the pair of platform shoes which appeared on an early poster advertising the band. A stylish ensemble that reflects not only the influence of glam on Laughner and the early punk scene in Cleveland, but also Laughner’s international influences. The presence of the shoes is particularly significant, tying together the best known image of the little known but influential band with Laughner’s own fashion sense.
Shoes are well worn, with a crack to the leather in the right shoe, and a small red abrasion to one shoe that looks oddly like a lipstick print; shirt and pants with signs of wear, and an unidentified red stain to the knee of the pants. Item #29068
