New York: F. J. Lovell & Co, 1889. First American edition. 8vo, xxix, 314 pp, bound in publisher's orange cloth decorated in red and in gilt, with black titles.
First American edition of this key work, collecting channeled texts received in sleep and trance states by the early Theosophist, animal rights activist and vegan Anna Kingsford, who was one of the first women to graduate with a degree in medicine in England, and was at one point president of the London Lodge of the Theosophical Society. The book was published posthumously after her premature death at the age of 41 by her collaborator Edward Maitland, who assembled the book out of her notebooks and manuscripts.
A sound, bright example with light rubbing and bumping to extremities of cloth and some minor toning within. Item #28676
