Correspondence: an exhibition of the letters of Ray Johnson

Raleigh, N.C. North Carolina Museum of Art, 1976. First edition. 4to, laminated , printed card folder with two pockets holding 256 sheets, two of them printing an overview of the exhibition and the remaining sheets reproducing mail art by Ray. This copy is collated and complete. Somewhat scarce thus - this delicate and massive assemblage of documents is often found missing elements.

Reproduces letters from Johnson to the show's 99 lenders, including Arakawa, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Elaine de Kooning, Charles Henri Ford, Dick Higgins, Ed Ruscha, Carol Berge, Jonathan Williams, Andrew Hoyem, and many more. A text by William S. Wilson, "Ray Johnson: the Comedian as the Letter" is reproduced on the inner pockets of the folder.

Contents fine. Folder is toned, with some rubbing and fraying to joints, and some laminate lift, but sound and otherwise very good. Item #28639

Price: $300.00
