Postcard for the 1986 Show at Club 1018. New Order, Lawrence Weiner.

Postcard for the 1986 Show at Club 1018

New York: Rockpool, 1986. 4 1/4 x 5 7/8" die-cut postcard, offset printed in three colors, with upper left hand tip lopped, as issued.

The striking postcard, though unattributed, is the work of Lawrence Weiner. The performance was in honor of the massively influential promoter Ruth Polsky, whose career had been cut tragically short earlier that fall after being struck by a cab on the steps of the Limelight. Polsky was hugely influential in bringing post-punk bands to wider attention in the US, especially in the UK. It was Polsky who booked the first, cancelled Joy Division tour, and contributed photography to First & Last & Always LP by Sisters of Mercy.

Two faint creases to surface, some minor wear to margins, else near fine. Item #28623
