Employment Questionnaire
np: [1963]. 8 1.2 x 11" flyer, mimeographed from typescript. Attribution printed below title in ballpoint pen.
A remarkable work by Dick Higgins for an unknown, early Fluxus performance. The work detourns the form of the employment questionnaire , one of the cruellest and most controlling of bureaucratic forms.
"This mimeographed piece was intended to be given away and filled in as part of a performance, very much in the manner of the activities of Tokyo's Hi-Red Center in Japanese Fluxus of roughly that time. I do not know if my piececame before or after theirs, but such ideas were 'in the air' and I was not aware of their activities and doubt they were aware of mine." - Dick Higgins, notes on ephemera for a 1995 exhibition quoted on the Fondazioni Bonotto website.
OCLC locates only a single holding, at MOMA.
A ragged well-creased, lightly soiled and toned example, with several short closed tears and nicks to margins - but very rare in any condition, an important piece of ephemera from the formative days Fluxus. Item #28355
