Memoires

Copenhagen: Internationale Situationniste, 1959. First edition. 4to, [64] pp, offset lithograph in color, bound in unprinted white card wraps and housed in the original sandpaper dust jacket.

Mémoires was the second book collaboration between Jorn, Debord and the printing company Permild & Rosengreen. Often anecdotally attributed to Debord, the sandpaper dust jacket was actually the suggestion of the printer, V. O. Permild, who should be considered an author of the final work. Jorn had requested an unconventional material for the binding, one that would inflict some physical mark on the reader. Permild suggested sandpaper and Jorn acquiesced, marvelling at the damage such a cover would inflict not just on neighboring books, but also upon the mahogany tables of the bourgeois.

There is a certain irony in the fact that sandpaper is as much a symbol of finishing as of destruction, and would likely have been used to finish the very mahogany table that Jorn mentions.

Sandpaper faintly rubbed, with a couple small, faint spots to front panel, else fine, and scarce thus. Item #28058

Price: $6,000.00
