3,000 Turn on at 4th Tompkins Square Park Smoke-In Sunday, August 6th. 3,000 Personas Comparacen a la Cuarta Fumadera en el Parque de Tompkins

New York: The Open Press, [1967]. 8 1/2 x 11" flyer, mimeographed from typescript and holograph on recto in English, with a full Spanish translation on verso.

A remarkable broadside documenting the Happening on August 6th, 1967, at which Country Joe and the Fish played and 3,000 ""hippies, Puerto Ricans, and Negroes" attendees got high. The flyer concludes by aligning the event as part of a campaign to resist drug laws. Remarkably, the verso of the flyer is fully translated into Spanish, reinforcing the intercultural impetus of the New York Provo on the LES. The group took their name and their theory of Happenings from the Dutch Provo before becoming an antecedent group to the Yippies.

Old vertical fold line, with some creasing to margins, but very good, with the paper supple, and little of the usual toning. The group mimeographed their broadsides on very cheap paper and this is in much better condition than usually found. Item #27637
