A remarkable assemblage of flyers documenting the infamous performances by the Texas hardcore punk band, one of the most important and influential such bands oof the 1980's, notable for challenging gender norms and the traditional performer audience. The band was fronted by Randy J. "Biscuit" Turner, now widely considered to be a pioneering gay performer and an outsized influence on later queer punk and queercore groups, who also was a visual artist and designed many of these flyers. Turner's penchant for performing in drag, as well as the occasional foodfight and the injection of horns and funk into the mix challenged the performance norms already being codified in the early hardcore scene. Even within the hardcore punk community, the band faced resistance for Turner's sexuality, as witnessed by the band's feud with Bad Brains. The band's funk sound was a large, if largely unacknowledged influence on the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Big Boys were one of the earliest bands to bring the worlds of skating and punk together.

A number of the flyers included are quite rare, some previously unencountered by us. The majority of the flyers are from Texas performances, but also included are out of state shows in the Bay Area and Washington D.C.. The flyers include both shows that the Big Boys headlined, as well as shows where they played with or opened for other acts, including fellow Texas bands The Dicks, Butthole Surfers, as well as out of town acts such as Black Flag, Articles of Faith, Really Red, Toxic Shock, Recipients, Social Unrest, Descendents, The Next, Morgue, Gardelou, F Systems, The Judy's, The Fast, Jerry's Kids, Rejects, Rank and File, The Rivals, The Jitters, Aces, Kamikaze Refridgerators, Court Reporters, Fish, Max & The Make Up, New Torpedoes, Offenders, Droogs, Huns, The Hates, Electros, Reign, Terminal Mind, Uranium Savage, Flipper, Circle Jerks, Saccharin Trust, Aces 88, Stains, Vestals, CH3, Bang Gang, Crotch Rot,Pressure boys, Twistyze, Human Drama, Skank, Ideals, Tiger Roos, Ty Gavin, Dark Motive, Pagans, Deprogramer, The Sluts, The Hickoids, The Inserts, Reactors, Vendettas, The Next, Gator Family, STB, Radio Planets, Derelicts, Point of Return, and others.
