[New Orleans]: 1954. 17 snapshots, each 3 1/2 x 3 1/2", silver gelatin drugstore prints. Housed in the original processing envelope which has the legend "Mardi Gra Pictures" written in pencil.
A collection of snapshots, likely from a single roll of film, documenting the events of Mardi Gras on Canal Street. The photographer was situated across from the Saenger Theatre. The marquee of the theatre advertises the film A Boy From Oklahoma, which was released in 1954, making it likely, given the prominence of the theatre, that this is likely, though not certainly from that year (thanks Martin). The photographs are occasionally blurry and not terribly well-composed, but it was a sunny day and they are imbued with a sense of light that is remarkable, as well as being valuable documentation of the street life of the fair, the floats, and the costumes.
Fine. Envelope near fine with a couple of faint stains. Item #26305
