Film Culture No. 5-6

New York: Film Culture, 1955. First edition. 4to, saddle-stapled wraps.

A rare early issue of the long-running publication, not just the most important film journal in America during the post-war period, but a periodical that would also incorporate related arts into it's scope, especially with those issues which were designed by artists associated with Fluxus, pop, and other avant-garde movements.

This issue has a photograph of Vittorio de Sica during the shooting of "Umberto D.", and contributions by Josef von Sternberg, Frank Stauffacher, Edouard L. de Laurot, a transcription of hearings on juvenile delinquency and film by Senator Estes Kefauver, a sequence with stills and transcription from Hans Richter's "8 x 8", J. Broz on Jiri Trinka's puppet films, Hans E. Mutzenbacher, Guido Aristarco, Peter Hollander, Francis Bolen, Lotte H. Eisner, and the usual reviews and columns.

Near fine with some light creasing and a touch of faint soiling. Early issues are scarce. Item #26001
