[Paris]: J. Ferenczi et Fils, 1935. First edition. 12mo, 243 pp, printed wraps. Text in French. With the author's carte de visite laid in.
The first edition, after 13 numbered copies, of what is, according to Betan and Colson, the first novel completely devoted to Zombies in the French language. We can think of no earlier example. Pierre-Corneille Blessebois' strange narrative Le zombi du grand Pérou ou la comtesse de cocagne, first published in 1697, included zombies as an element but was not completely about the subject. De Miomandre's work was published only three years after Halperin's film White Zombie. To the best of our knowledge, the book has not been translated into English, and the novel is not well known.
Slight darkening to spine, and a single faint creas, small elegant ink notation to back cover, else a bright and clean near fine example, completely uncut.
Rare. Item #25996
