New York: Elgin Theatre, [c.1969]. 8 1/2 x 11" flyer, offset printed in black on cream stock. Original flyer for this series of midnight newsreel screenings related to counterculture and political events at the infamous Elgin Theatre in Chelsea, the venue widely credited with inventing the midnight movie in America. Newsreels noted here include the infamous documentary about Black Mask and their garbage action at Lincoln Centre, as well as newsreels about the Haight Scene, Heroic Vietnamese Women, The People's Park, Du Pont, the Richmond Oil Strike, and the F.A.L.N.
The striking design of the poster - great hand-cut lettering merged into a machine gun - is unattributed.
Small date rubberstamp (July 1969) to verso, light touch of foxing to a couple areas, small crease to one tip else fine. Item #25936
