New York: Caught in Flux, 1993-. 8vo, each issue saddle-stapled in card wraps. Association copies, from the archive of the zine puncture, several of the issues addressed and postmarked, the first two issues with holograph notes to one of the editors.
All issues published of the indie fanzine, which was a successor to Writer's Block. The west coast correspondent for the first issue was Alex Kogan - she edited the great zine Rabid. CIF was noteworthy for great writing, and coverage and interviews with any number of great bands of the period, with an emphasis on British post-punk and the obscure. Issue no. 4 is justly famous for the article and interview with Palmolive, the drummer of the Slits and the Raincoats - Appelstein tracked her down in Cape Cod, where she had emigrated, become a born again Christian, and was playing Christian versions of Slits songs.
