Set of Two Different Exhibition Catalogs for Mouvement 2

Paris: Galerie Denise Rene, 1964. Two catalogues, each consisting of 12 die-cut circles attached to each other, printed in color on the recto and verso of each. Each catalog folds out into a 3 by 4 grid.

Both catalogs designed for this important early exhibition devoted to kinetic and op art, a successor to the original Mouvement exhibition the decade prior at the same gallery. The catalogs were designed by the Franco-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, who had taken part in the Bewogen Beweging exhibition in 1961. The two catalogs have a different color scheme and design, but are both for the same show, and both contain reproductions of the same works and print the same text by Jean Cassou. Of the two, the blue catalog on glossy paper stock seems to be much less encountered than the red and green version - this is the first example we've handled of it.

With contributions from Cruz-Diez and Lygia Clark, Alexander Calder, Jean Tinguely, Josef Albers, Gregorio Vardanega, Equipo 57, Enzo Mari, Alviani Getulio, Abraham Palatnik, Victor Vasarely, Toni Costa, Harry Kramer, Horacio Garcia-Rossi, Yvaral, Lillian Florsheim, Jacob Agam, Charles Gerstner, Jesu-Raphaël Soto, Luis Tomasello, Edwin Mieczkowski, Uli Pohl, Antonio Virduzzo, Francis R.
