In What Hour

New York: Macmillan, 1940. First edition. 8vo, 83 pp, bound in blue cloth titled in gilt. Illustrated dust jacket. With mimeographed errata slip taped down onto verso of last leaf. Association copy, inscribed boldly by Rexroth at the first blank to Charles and Janet Richards.

The poet's first book, an important debut that would anticipate and pave the way for the Beat Generation. A good association - Charles and Janet were friends of Rexroth, and an important part of the California jazz scene. Janet chronicled some of this milieu in her underappreciated memoir Common Soldiers. The errata slip tipped in is rare, this being the first example we've seen.

Strips of fading to cloth extremities, and some offsetting to ffep from Rexroth's signature, else near fine. The dust jacket is good only, with rubbing and creasing to extremities, and with the front flap nearly completely split. Good only. Item #25214
