New Orleans: Glade Gallery, 1965. 18 x 25" poster, offset lithograph in three colors.
The striking large scale poster for the 1965 exhibition of paintings at Glade Gallery. The poster is illustrated with one of Patchen's bird man drawings, and was designed by Patchen himself. The exhibition was organized by Ed Blair with Jon and Lou Webb, and included paintings which had previously been shown at City Lights bookshop. According to Jeff Weddle, who discusses the exhibition briefly in his book Bohemian New Orleans: The Story of the Outsider and Loujon Press, the exhibition was partially a consolation for the fact that a proposed Patchen book from the Loujon Press had to be shelved.
Bump to left margin and 2" closed tear and another short nick, affecting yellow field but not the image, some light spots and lines to margins of oxidation from prior framing, also visible at verso, but not affecting the image at recto, which remains bright. Very good. Item #25048
