C: A Journal of Poetry Vol. 1, No. 2 [with an Unpublished Holograph Poem by Berrigan]

New York: Lorenz Gude, 1963. First edition. Foolscap format, mimeographed on rectos only; stab-stapled.

Early number of the little magazine, which was of of primary importance to the formation of the second New York School. Early issues are increasingly uncommon. This issue includes contributions from Berrigan and Sandy Alper, J. Richard White, Ron Padgett, and Joe Brainard. Verso of last page (with Brainard's "Poem" printed on recto) bears a nine-line holograph poem in Ted Berrigan's hand, in three sections, beginning "If your father had a brogue like Brendan Behan," in pencil, and signed above the poem. We can find no record of these lines being published.

Some soiling and toning to cover, with a vertical fold line. Last three sheets detached, but present, and collated and complete against Birmingham. The detached pages chipped and soiled. A worn, but complete copy, and with the addition of the Berrigan poem unique. Item #20315
