In Advance of the Broken Arm

New York: C Press, 1964. First edition. Paperback. 4to, mimeographed from typescript on rectos only, and side-stapled into card covers. With a cover and illustrations throughout by Joe Brainard. One of 200 numbered copies signed by Padgett at the colophon.

Padgett's first published book, and an essential publication from the Tulsa crew, written by Padgett, beautifully illustrated by Brainard, and edited by Berrigan. A second edition followed under the same imprint with a different Brainard cover, but this is the true first. An early C press title. Not in Clay & Phillips.

A soiled, creased, and battered copy, with a heavy vertical crease to front and back cover, read with coffee and mud on an LES stoop or having every appearance of having been so beautifully handled close to the ground. Item #20312
