Rotterdam: Bébert, 1990. First edition. Oblong 4to, bound in orange boards and housed in an orange cloth slipcase with title stamped in black to front panel. Illustrated with 20 full page lithographs in color on thick Rivoli paper. One of 2500 copies numbered in pencil at the colophon. With a 3 pp. introduction by Keith Haring, reproduced from holograph.
The first 500 copies of this book were originally intended to be signed by Haring, but he died the week before the book was published, and they were instead rubberstamped with a facsimile of Haring's signature and numbered by the executor of his estate, and no copies were actually signed. The remaining 2000 copies of the edition were numbered in pencil, as with this copy.
Against All Odds is a book of drawings which "are about the Earth we inherited and the dismal task of trying to save it - against all odds." (from Haring's foreward). It is one of Haring's strongest bodies of work. The book was dedicated to Steve Rubell, the former owner of Studio 54, who had died the year before, also due to complications from AIDS.
OCLC locates 22 holdings, but locates no holdings in any institutions in Haring's own New York City.
Fine in a fine slipcase, a gorgeous, bright copy. Item #28488
