Artists' Book. 8vo. Offset printed; spiral bound. Near fine with a single tiny crease to one tip. Dedicated to Ed Ruscha, and one of the best of many Ruscha homages. Students from York College cut out each words from Freud's Interpretation of Dreams, and Simon Morris and crew threw them out the window of a speeding car, much as Ruscha had thrown a typewriter out the window as documented in his book Royal Road Test. Slippages and eruptions of the real ensued.

3.5 x 10,.5" exhibition announcement, offset printed on card stock. Offsetting to verso, with some marginal creasing; very good. Exhibition announcement for a solo show by Maciunas at his seminal AG Gallery, the gallery Maciunas himself founded with Almus Salcius. Legend has it that Maciunas intended to bankroll the avant-garde programming of the gallery by importing luxury foodstuffs from Europe, but neither the art nor the food was enough to keep the gallery open; it would close in July of 1961, after having been open for less than a year. One could write a fascinating book about the money-making schemes of the avant-garde. In that short time, however, Maciunas was able to show the works of future members of the Fluxus movement. Scarce, very early Fluxus ephemera from a short-lived but influential space.

Curated by Phillips and published in conjunction with the 1990 exhibition of the same name, which mined the remarkable crossovers and similarities between commercial heavy metal and the commercial gallery art scene to great effect - draw what conclusions you will. Most eye catching is the Vik Muniz contribution, a stapled in multiple consisting of a packet of anti-aging pills and bee pollen. The pills have gotten sort of nasty now, a bit cracked and aged, like most things that were shiny in the 90's. 12mo. 249 pp. Wraps. The first edition of this erotic novel by the founder of Lettrisme, featuring a truly lurid cover, even by the publisher's standards, of a bare breasted woman, mouth open in ecstasy or pain, with the cross hairs of a rifle sight delicately centered on her tense neck. Despite relatively late date of publication, rare - oclc locates a bare 3 copies. The cheap paper is toned, as might be expected, with a touch of foxing to the prelims, but the spine remains uncreased, and the binding sound and tight. In much better condition than might be expected given the publisher's production values.

Sheet size: 14 x 11". Image size: 7 1/2 x 9". An ink portrait of Piero Heliczer standing in front of the 8th Avenue subway station in Chelsea, in front of a peace flag, with flowers growing out of his pocket, wearing a pin which reads "Piero for Prez" (apparently Eileen Myles wasn't the only underground writer who was making a presidential bid to save us that year). The portrait is signed by Heliczer, who has added the legend "april fools day mcmlxxxvii". There is no artist signature, but we believe the artist to be Colleen Burke, who was a friend of Heliczer. An unusual "Piero Approved" portrait of the great, criminally neglected underground poet and filmmaker, who published some of the most beautiful books of the postwar period under his imprint The Dead Language Press. A couple of short marginal closed tears and a single slight 1/4" chip to upper margin, not affecting image; very good.

Stern was a pioneer of light art who designed light shows for Timothy Leary, and also became known for his extensive work in neon. The handbill draws attention that the site of the theater was around the corne from the loft where Thomas Wilfred held his light experiments in the 20's, providing a nice example of historical contextualization of the light medium in these early days. An original flyer for either a performance of this controversial Acconci piece, or a screening of the film of the performance, at Eastern Michigan University. The piece was first performed in 1971. The text on the poster reads "I'm in the basement, blindfolded, seated on a chair at the foot of the stairs - I have at hand two metal pipes and a crowbard- I am talking aloud, continuousl to myself- talking myself into a possessional obsession." Single horizontal fold, two small abrasions to upper tips, some faint foxing to verso only; very good.

4to. [32] pp. Bound in pictorial wraps designed by Jamie Reid to purposefully to appear distressed. Illustrated with color reproductions or photographs of 64 works. Inscribed by Jamie Reid at the title page with a small drawing: "Ours is the 21st Century Ova Towards a New Age." In addition, laid in is a crumpled piece of paper additionally signed and inscribed - "John all love and respect Jamie Reid." The piece of paper also contains Jamie's older website address and email. Some innocuous light horizontal creasing to spine else fine. A rare artists' book designed by Jamie Reid and Garry Mouat, with text by Jamie Reid -a great manifesto on the state of the visual arts on the brink of the nineties. Includes color reproductions of a wide array of Reid's work. This was apparently published in conjunction with the Celtic Surveyor exhibits in Japan and has since has dropped out of sight. In an odd and (perhaps?) purposeful twist, the isbn the book bears is the same as Dave Rimmer's book "Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital." OCLC locates no holdings, and this is the only copy we've handled or seen despites years of searching. We will refrain from suggesting that the "John" of the inscription is Mr. Rotten, but the book does appear to have been inscribed to somebody close to Reid.
